This inspirational woman is Shirley Ann Jackson, the first African American woman to get a PhD at MIT, in nuclear physics, at that! Her work has given us solar cells, touch tone phones, caller ID/waiting and fiber optic cables. She is such an integral part in the development of how we now communicate and it’s a shame how few know about her. So that’s why today she is our Monday Muse! Thank you Shirley for the contributions that you have made in not only communications, but in paving the way for diversity in a field and institution otherwise stuck in a long and exclusionary tradition. You are truly amazing.
